The short version
Joel Research Corporation does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from users of its apps. Our apps run locally on your device and communicate only with hardware you own on your local network.
What this policy covers
This policy applies to the Joel Research Corporation website (joelresearchcorporation.com) and to all iOS apps published by Joel Research Corporation, including CAV6 Control.
Information we do not collect
Our apps do not:
- Collect personally identifiable information
- Track user behavior or usage analytics
- Send data to our servers (we do not operate user-data servers)
- Access your contacts, photos, location, microphone, or camera
- Display third-party advertising or share data with advertisers
- Use third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, or similar
Information our apps process locally
Our apps process the following on your device only. None of it is transmitted to us:
- Configuration data: IP addresses and port numbers you enter for your network-to-serial bridge, zone names, source names, scene definitions, and saved preset labels. This is stored locally in your app's Documents folder and (optionally) backed up to your iCloud per Apple's standard app data backup behavior.
- Network communication: Our apps open a TCP connection to a device on your local network that you specify (such as a Moxa NPort or Elk IP232 bridge). All control commands stay within your local network.
Network communication
CAV6 Control communicates with Russound® CAV6.6 multi-zone audio controllers via a network-to-serial bridge that you provide on your own local network. No data is sent to Joel Research Corporation, Russound, Inc., or any third party as part of normal app operation.
Apple App Store
When you download our apps from the App Store, Apple may collect data per their own privacy policy. This is governed by Apple, not by Joel Research Corporation. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for details.
Crash reports and diagnostics
If you have Share With App Developers enabled in iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymized crash reports and performance data with us. This data does not contain personally identifiable information. You can disable this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements on your device.
Children’s privacy
Our apps are not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change what data our apps process — for example, by adding a cloud-sync feature — we will update this policy and the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the apps after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
