CAV 6 Control — Help & Tips
Getting the most out of CAV 6 Control
Getting started
CAV 6 Control talks to your Russound® CAV6.6 system through a network‑to‑serial bridge (an IP‑to‑RS‑232 device such as USR-TCP232-302, Moxa NPort or Elk IP232) that you connect to the first controller's RS‑232 port and to your local network.
- Open Settings → Network & Controllers and enter the bridge's IP address and TCP port.
- Add each CAV6.6 controller in your system (up to six). The app reaches every controller through that one bridge.
- Make sure your iPhone and the bridge are on the same Wi‑Fi network.
Already have a system configured elsewhere? Use Settings → Import Configuration to bring in your zones, sources, and layout in one step.
Controlling zones
The home screen lists every zone. Tap a zone to open its controls:
- Power, volume, and mute — plus a quick volume slider on the home row.
- Source selection from your configured inputs.
- Bass, treble, balance, and loudness per zone.
Scenes
A scene is a one‑tap preset that sets power, source, and audio across several zones at once — great for "Party," "Dinner," or "Goodnight."
- Create one under Settings → Scene Edit. New scenes are named Scene 1, Scene 2, … so they're easy to tell apart — rename them to anything you like.
- Tap a scene on the home screen to run it.
Tuner & presets
When a zone is on a tuner source (ST2, ST2‑XM, ST2‑S, or SMS3), the zone screen shows a tuner panel with tuning, banks, presets, and now‑playing info.
Good to know:
- The tuner is shared hardware — its current station/channel is the same for every zone listening to that source.
- Saving a preset stores the station you're currently hearing into the bank the tuner is on. To save into a different bank, first navigate to that bank, tune to your station, then Save — the in‑app note explains this when you tap Save.
Alarms & sleep timers
Schedule wake‑up music and auto‑off per zone, each with its own source.
- Keep the app open for an alarm to fire at its scheduled time — like most controller apps, CAV 6 Control runs the schedule while it's in the foreground, so leave it on screen (and your phone awake) for a wake‑up.
Save, import & back up
From Settings you can save your complete system setup as a named configuration, export it to share or archive, import a saved setup, and manage backups so you can roll back before trying a new layout.
Troubleshooting
- Can't connect? Double‑check the bridge's IP address and TCP port in Network & Controllers, confirm the bridge is powered and on the same Wi‑Fi, and that it's wired to the first controller's RS‑232 port.
- Dropped after leaving the app? iOS suspends background apps; CAV 6 Control reconnects automatically when you return. Your music keeps playing the whole time — the controllers run independently of the app.
- A zone looks out of sync? The app re‑checks the controllers automatically; give it a moment to settle.
